How aaro works
Sixteen drivers, sixteen amplifier channels, a room-measurement system and a spatial renderer, designed together from the start.
- Treble ring
6 electrostatic panels - Height pair
2 up-firing drivers - Midrange ring
6 drivers, one per direction - Bass section
2 opposed woofers, 4.5 L sealed - Base
16 amplifier channels, processing, the sensing switch
Six directions, controlled separately
Bass leaves aaro one equally in every direction. Above it, six midrange drivers and six electrostatic panels divide the circle into six sectors, each with its own amplifiers and filters.
That control lets one speaker fill a room evenly, and lets many speakers act as a single sound field.
Signal path
Every sound takes the same path through the speaker. The protection stages keep running if the app or the internet goes away.
- Clock
- Speakers share one clock over Wi-Fi 6E or Ethernet: left and right stay within 20 microseconds of each other, a whole group within a millisecond.
- Response
- Volume changes land in under 150 milliseconds, and music starts from standby in under two seconds.
Room tuning
Bass in a room is a pattern of peaks and gaps that changes from seat to seat. Instead of correcting one spot, aaro measures the room and adjusts every speaker together, so the whole sofa hears the same balance.
Bass at 71 Hz across a 6 × 4.8 m room with four aaro one, modelled. Across the sofa it varies by 14 dB before tuning and 4 dB after. Clear floor is even.
- Bass first
- The strongest correction sits below about 500 Hz, where rooms do the most damage.
- No deep boosts
- A gap that filters can't fill becomes placement advice, not more power.
- Fair comparisons
- Before and after always play at the same loudness.
- Profiles
- Reference, Warm, Low volume, Late night and Cinema.
- On the speaker
- Your tuning is stored locally and works without the internet or an account.
Before tuning, three seatsAfter tuning
The same tuning across 20 to 250 Hz: on average the seats differ by 3.8 dB before and 0.8 dB after.
Sensing and privacy
The sensors exist to make the sound better. Everything they measure is processed on the speaker.
- What it senses
- Six microphones measure the room and hear the wake word. Four millimetre-wave sensors register people as points in space, never images.
- What it keeps
- Room measurements and your tuning. Raw room audio is never stored.
- What the switch does
- It disconnects every microphone and sensor in hardware. Playback, pairing and saved tuning keep working.
- When audio leaves
- Only for optional voice features, and a light on the speaker shows whenever it does.
Repair and updates
An expensive speaker shouldn't stop working when a server changes. aaro plays locally, updates safely and can be repaired.
- Replaceable parts
- The network board, amplifier module, microphones, knit and feet come out without opening the acoustic chamber.
- Safe updates
- Every update is signed and rolls back automatically if anything goes wrong.
- Seven years
- Software and security updates for seven years from the last day a model is sold.
- No account needed
- Local playback, tuning and stereo pairs work without signing in.
Compatibility
aaro uses each service's own approved connection, so playback stays at full quality and your apps stay in control.
